Who should go?
Senior catering managers and chefs, who would like to experience the vibrant Basque cuisine and visit this gourmet centre of Western Europe and anyone wishing to refresh develop their product.
The tour involves a hands-on cooking day at the renowned Basque Culinary Centre, the only University in Europe with such a faculty.
Why should you go?
The tour will include a tasting walk of pinxtos and the unique Basque wine, txakoli, as well as one day Rioja tour with the San Sebastian Cooking School. The Basque Culinary Institute occupies an iconic building and is part of a private University in San Sebastian. The tour will offer the chance to immerse participants in the renowned passion for Basque cuisine and culture that has resulted in the city having more Michelin stars per head of population than anywhere else in Europe.
At the end of the tour, participants will:
· Have had an inspiring hands-on experience of creating Basque cuisine
· Have a detailed understanding of the production of Rioja and other Basque wine
· Experienced the vibrant food culture of the city
· Experienced the creative combination of ingredients that go to make up a vast variety of pinxtos
About the tour:
The tour will be based in the heart of the Old City of San Sebastian in a Pension that is within easy walking distance of all the places included in the itinerary. The tour leader is Samantha Potts, TUCO Administrator. Flights will be from Stansted to Biarritz, in France, which is the nearest airport to San Sebastian. Participants will need to bring their whites (or equivalent) and comfortable walking shoes!
