Established in 1864, Matthew Algie is a family-owned business, ethically sourcing exceptional coffees from around the world and roasting them to perfection at our award-winning Glasgow roastery. We initiated the espresso revolution in the UK by launching the first Fairtrade espresso, followed by the world’s first triple-certified espresso.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We have a five-pillar plan which outlines our sustainable and development goals, covering sourcing, the environment, people, and community. We have achieved a lot over the years, but we recognise that there is still much more we can do. Therefore, we are determined to set meaningful priorities and take genuine and radical steps towards a more sustainable future. We have outlined a Roadmap to Net-Zero by 2040.
Across the UK & Ireland, we supply the finest coffees from producers we know, and we roast the beans with great care to bring out their best aroma and flavour. We partner with world leading brands to source our coffee equipment, which is maintained by a nationwide team of directly employed, highly skilled service engineers. We also offer full product and equipment training by our highly skilled team, as well as ‘Speciality Coffee Association’ accredited training courses.
Our brand portfolio consists of our own market-leading sustainable brands, such as Smokin’ Bean and Peak & Wild. We also partner with Social Bite, inspired by their mission to end homelessness and their belief in the power of individuals to drive positive change. In addition, we offer a white label service for customers who wish to have a bespoke coffee.
Beyond coffee and equipment, Matthew Algie also offer a comprehensive range of café supplies through our Espresso Warehouse brand. Our range has ‘everything but the coffee’, including hot chocolate, syrups, alternative milks, tea, barista kit, crockery and more. We regularly create delicious seasonal recipes and supporting point of sale, using core ingredients from our portfolio.

We have a proven understanding of the sector – particularly with regards to our product range, requisite training and standards management, as well as equipment maintenance and servicing. Our local account managers are also on hand to provide market expertise, which is shaped to devise targeted strategies.
