Do you know how much of your food ends up as waste? How it affects your budgets, carbon emissions and the reputation of your institution?
Building on WRAP’s Food Waste Action Week 2022, which focussed on the relationship between wasted food and its impact on climate change, this webinar will provide you with the opportunity to share best practice and present you with helpful information and resources wherever you are on the journey to reduce food waste.

Overview

Watch the webinar recording now:

Food, Utilities and Labour costs are all significantly on the increase – reducing food waste is an area which will save you money with the added benefit of reducing your carbon footprint.

During the webinar we’ll ask for your experience of WRAP’s Cost Savings Skills Course and other examples of learning, together with your initial findings on the volume or weight of food that is wasted during the course of a week’s service.

Presentations will explore cost saving skills; supporting behaviour change; how to become a food waste champion; a Guardians of Grub Ambassador; updates on forthcoming Government policies and regulations.

Hosted Round table sessions will provide the forum for open discussions on these topics and what progress universities (institutions) are making in preventing the wasting of food.

There are 3 steps to consider on your food waste reduction journey:

  • Step 1 Prevention - reducing the amount of food that is wasted through training, behaviour change, leading by example - the no cost, or low cost and best option
  • Step 2 Redistribution - using apps like Too Good to Go and Olio
  • Step 3 Recycling - using waste management contractors to derive the most beneficial outcome from the treatment of food waste i.e. anaerobic digestion

FAQs

  • I can’t see a particular course/training, can you run it?

If you are interested in receiving training that is not already offered by TUCO Academy, pop us an email or give us a call and we will see if we can source it for you. By going through TUCO Academy you will be able to purchase the training at a subsidised rate and if you can offer the training to other members it will reduce the cost further.

Does this answer your question? If not, you can contact us directly.

  • Can I request a course or development day be held at my organisation?

The TUCO Academy has worked hard to offer all training at a subsidised price, agreeing reduced corporate contract rates with hotels etc. - yet still understands the benefits of in-house training. To that end, working alongside the professional trainers, TUCO Academy can arrange for events to be held at your own institution, for no extra cost.

Does this answer your question? If not, you can contact us directly.

  • Who can use the training with TUCO Academy?

All professional development events are available for ANY staff in institutions who are members of TUCO, not just employees in the hospitality, catering and commercial services department.

Does this answer your question? If not, you can contact us directly.

  • Can I book on behalf of someone else in my organisation?

Yes – the person making the booking doesn’t have to attend.

  • How do I pay for my professional development event?

You can opt to pay by credit card on the booking form directly or select to pay by invoice. If you need to submit a purchase order this can be entered in the booking form.
