To mark Anti-slavery week (17 – 23 October), UKUPC’s Responsible Procurement Network has developed five short videos to help raise awareness of the importance of eradicating Modern Slavery from society. As a sector we can play a major part of this movement through our commitment to our institutions legal and moral obligations and exploring what we can do to protect those most at risk across UKUPC’s membership, our students, our work force and throughout our domestic and global supply chains.

Presented by Marisol Bernal Responsible Procurement Lead at LUPC and Sarah Dye Operational Procurement Manager and lead for Sustainability for NWUPC, the videos are just over 4 minutes in length, and are intended to help explore how you can share your commitment to combatting modern slavery and to help educate and inform others.

Watch the videos below.

The videos will provide you with insight on the following:

  • everything you need to know about what Modern Slavey is
  • why we as a sector should be concerned
  • what is the Modern Slavery Act
  • How to spot signs of Modern Slavery
  • Who is likely to be more at risk
  • Good Practice to follow
  • How modern slavery impacts and affects all businesses, industries, and sectors
  • Getting the basics rights with writing your Modern Slavery Statement
  • Sharing your statement, progress, and good news

UKUPC is a partnership between eight UK consortia (APUC, HEPCW, LUPC, NEUPC, NWUPC, SUPC, TEC and TUCO) who created a formal entity to support collaborative procurement within Higher and Further Education. We work together to share knowledge and best practice, to support each other and our wider procurement community.

If you would like more information or to provide your thoughts on the content of the videos, please contact the Chair of the Responsible Procurement Network, Marisol Bernal.
